Xavi Simons among PSG youth players questioning future at the club

Le Parisien report that Paris Saint-Germain’s management of its young players has left many of its youth team contingent questioning their future at the club.

The likes of Xavi Simons and Édouard Michut had been told that they would return to the U19 team in August, despite previously being a part of the professional squad.

This decision came six months after director Leonardo had told France Football that “instead of having an international play five games a year, we might as well give a chance to one of our young players who grew up here”.

The father of one of the players has stated that “we should have left this summer”, while an insider source at PSG explained that “everyone at Paris knows that the project is unreadable, not least since there’s no reserve team”.

“We are in France, players are attracting interest from a younger and younger age. If you don’t put anything forward, you’ll ask yourself questions, and it’s the whole Parisian talent pool that’s asking questions. Many families are asking questions, they’ve heard nothing back, while foreign clubs have already reached out with enticing projects.”

Édouard Michut – who had extended his contract up to 2025 – currently feels as though he has been misled on the current project, and is thinking of leaving, potentially as early as January. Xavi Simons, whose contract expires in 2022, is not rushing to extend. Midfielder Junio Dina Ebimbe – who has made three starts for the senior side – is also questioning his future.

While defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu has already signed a professional contract at 16, Ismaël Gharbi has yet to do so. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and is the only player from his generation with whom the club have begun negotiations.
