The 5 Best Waterproof Speakers, According to Reviewers

Pump up the poolside jams

The Outside hallways are stacked with boxes, and our offices are overflowing with gear. But even we can't get our hands on every product. To fill the gaps, we often ask experts about the gear they're using. Other times, we read online reviews.

This week, we wanted to expand on our waterproof speaker review from 2016, so we searched Amazon's best selling list and chose five speakers that met the following criteria: each had somewhere around 1,000 comments, and each got a five-star rating at least 70 percent of the time. After choosing the speakers, we scanned their pages for our favorite reviews, which are listed below. Note: some reviews have been edited for length and clarity.

Photive Hydra Wireless Bluetooth Speaker ($35)

"I bought this for my father-in-law for Christmas. His home was completely demolished by an EF4 tornado the next day. Two days later, after a day of torrential rain, we found the speaker amongst the soaking wet rubble of his home. Amazingly, it powered right up and is in perfect working order. It literally survived a tornado."

"I was sold the second I dropped this speaker in the river, fished it out, and it was still playing music. I have also dropped it in the shower, brushed the soap off, and stuck it back on the wall. It’s loud, easily connects to Bluetooth, and is waterproof. I cannot imagine anything better than this portable speaker."

"Is it a Bose? No. But for a waterproof speaker, the Aomais has really good sound and the battery will last for eight hours on full blast. I really like the auto-off features as well, as I tend to leave the house or beach sometimes for beer or snacks and forget to turn it off. Bluetooth is quick to pair and with no problems. It has a range of about 40 to 50 yards, too!"

"I bought this speaker because it will fit in my kayak's cup holder and it's waterproof in case I drop it in the water. It's quite loud and has crystal-clear sound, as well as a nice base. I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a great price considering what it offers and is perfect for the outdoors as well as my home."

"I bought this speaker to use outside while in the hot tub and I love it. The sound quality is excellent and can be heard over the noise of the jets with no problem. The battery seems to last a decent amount of time. I have got it wet from being around the tub and haven't had any problems with it."
