PSG’s squad drops to 4th most expensive behind English trio
As reported by the European Football Observatory, CIES, PSG’s squad is no longer part of Europe’s top three for overall expenditure following the summer transfer window.
Paris have dropped to fourth behind three English clubs, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea. Leading the way, Manchester City’s current squad cost €1.064bn to assemble, while Manchester United’s squad is the second move expensive at €1.001bn including bonuses. PSG were third last season but were overtaken by Chelsea following the arrival of new American owner Todd Boehly.
Chelsea’s summer spending took their squad’s value to €881m while Paris dropped to fourth with a squad costing €847m. Liverpool (€777m), Real Madrid (€721m), Barcelona (€626m), Arsenal (€534m), Tottenham (€519m) and Atletico Madrid (€502m) complete the top 10.
Meanwhile, PSG remain sixth for money spent in the transfer market since 2013 spending €1.459bn in that time. It’s a list which Chelsea now top with €1.815bn spent on players in the last decade with Barcelona second on €1.811bn and Manchester City third with €1.806bn.
