Mothercare reports solid growth

Mothercare, the maternity and baby fashion company, this week reported its 15th consecutive quarter of like-for-like sales growth. The company has reported a 5.6 per cent increase in total sales during the fourth quarter ended 28 March and a 1.3 per cent rise rise in the UK.

Third quarter UK like-for-like sales grew 1.1 per cent while total UK sales fell 1.8 per cent after a planned reduction in stores.

UK like for like sales for the full year improved by 1.4 per cent and total UK sales by 2.4 per cent, lifting total group sales by 6.9 per cent. International retail sales rose 44.5 per cent and were up 6 per cent on a like for like basis.

Ben Gordon, Chief Executive said: “This is another strong performance from the Mothercare group. International goes from strength to strength, with retail sales up 40%. We now have 1,014 stores in 51 countries worldwide.”
