Mick Schumacher offers a few words about his father

For the first time since he started his racing career, Mick Schumacher has publicly spoken about his legendary father, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

The 18-year-old  is stepping up to the ultra-competitive European F3 Series this season, a step widely considered as the last of a stairway leading to Formula 1.

“My idol is my dad,” he said in an interview for the German broadcaster RTL.

“Simply because he is the best. He is my role model.”

And Schumacher said his goal is clearly to emulate the incredible accomplishments his father achieved.

“My goal is to become Formula 1 world champion,” he said.

Mick is already working as a brand ambassador for Mercedes, but he also has an open invitation to join Ferrari’s young driver programme.

“I’m doing it my way for the moment,” he said.

“What the future brings, we’ll see.”
