Mae Young Classic Quarterfinals Set, Batista Up for New Film Role
The Mae Young Classic tournament continues with the number of women in this year’s show getting smaller and smaller with each passing week. Most of the matches in this year’s tournament are already behind us now, which means that it will only be a matter of time until the last two women standing will face each other in the finals of the tournament at WWE’s Evolution pay-per-view later on this month. It will certainly be interesting to see who makes it that far, but the options are becoming limited now. The latest episode of the Mae Young Classic aired on the WWE Network last night after NXT went off the air, and it looks like the second round of this year’s tournament is now officially over.
During the latest edition of the Mae Young Classic, four matches were held to close out the second round. Io Shirai, Deonna Purrazzo, Tegan Nox, and Mia Yim all won their matches last night and will move on to the next round. The quarterfinals for the Mae Young Classic tournament list matches between Mia Yim and Toni Storm, Meiko Satomura and Lacey Lane, Tegan Nox and Rhea Ripley, and Io Shirai and Deonna Purrazzo. The matches will determine who goes onto the semifinals of the tournament, which will then ultimately decide the two finalists. 32 women started off in the Mae Young Classic, but only 8 remain now. The quarterfinals for this year’s tournament kicks off next Wednesday night at 9pm ET on the WWE Network.
As speculation over Dave Bautista’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves on, it appears that the former WWE Champion is up for another huge film role at the moment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bautista is now in talks to join the cast of an upcoming Fantasy Island film, which is based off of the old television series of the same name. Bautista will be making his first WWE appearance in over four years when he reunites with his pals in Evolution on SmackDown 1000 next week, but he will then likely continue to pursue more acting roles for himself. This new role has not been made official, but wrestling fans can look forward to seeing him back on WWE programming this Tuesday in the meantime.
