Luís Campos wants to leave PSG if Antero Henrique stays

L’Équipe report this morning that Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting adviser Luís Campos has in private that he intends to leave should his compatriot Antero Henrique still be at the club by the turn of the year.

In the wake of reports yesterday that Kylian Mbappé was already pushing to leave the club, Le Parisien also indicated that Campos would be following the World Cup winner through the exit door, similarly over conflict with the rest of the upper management regarding this summer’s transfer business. He nevertheless categorically denied the rumours himself in the build-up to yesterday’s Champions League clash against Benfica.

For L’Équipe, the former Monaco and Lille sporting director, who was brought in at Mbappé’s request, has never been on particularly good terms with Nasser Al-Khelaifi. An altercation had taken place between them back in 2019 after the PSG president complained about refereeing in a match against Lille. Campos had replied to him that “we’re not in Qatar here!”, with Al-Khelaifi then turning to him to ask who he was before Campos did likewise.

The latter’s proximity with the Mbappé family nevertheless saw Real Madrid employ him to try and sign the Frenchman in 2021, before the forward asked for him to replace Leonardo the following year. Along with Campos came Christophe Galtier, with Al-Khelaifi’s priority to replace Mauricio Pochettino having been Thiago Motta. The president also called on Antero Henrique, former sporting director himself to lead transfer negotiations, a decision which led to a growing rivalry between the the latter and Campos.
