Lucky And In Love: Bridgewater Grad Gets Married Amid Coronavirus

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — It wasn’t the wedding Bridgewater native Lori Marulli and her fiance Patrick Cyrana had envisioned, but it was one they will never forget.

Murelli, a Bridgewater-Raritan High School graduate, had planned to marry Union resident Patrick Cyrana on the beach in Turks and Caicos on April 6. However, with the entire country shutting down due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the couple knew their plans were not going to happen.

Instead of waiting, they took their luck into their own hands.

“I said, ‘Well, your name is Patrick and your sister is ordained and you have a St. Patrick’s Day party every year, so why not get married in our living room?’ ” Marulli said to Cyrana.

They decorated their Union home with St. Patrick’s Day decor and wore fun T-shirts with a tuxedo print for Cyrana and a green shirt saying “One Lucky Bride” for Marulli.

The couple were joined by a few friends and family members in their home, and they streamed the ceremony through Facetime for Marulli’s dad.

“It was a very memorable day at our home and will be a great story to tell in the years to come,” Marulli said.

Cyrana’s sister even threw in some hilarious, yet sentimental, vows that ended with an Irish blessing — “…wishing you a rainbow, for sunlight after showers. Miles and miles of Irish smiles, for golden happy hours. Shamrocks at your doorway, for luck and laughter too. And a host of love that never ends, each day your whole life through.”

This unique and impromptu wedding was fitting for the couple, who met through an app in June. Cyrana had just opened Backyard Heroes Fireworks on Route 22 in Springfield when Marulli came to the grand opening. The couple hit it off, and the rest is history.

Marulli and Cyrana also had a wedding reception planned for June at a farm in South Jersey, but the fate of that is up in the air. Marulli’s bachelorette party was also canceled amid all the shutdowns. Now she has two wedding dresses that she hasn’t been able to wear.

Despite all of that, the couple are excited to be married before more things shut down, such as municipal offices, or they have to self-quarantine.

Marulli, who is a teacher in Essex County, is home; and she and Cyrana are considering their time home together as their “homey-moon.”

“At least we are married,” she said. “And you know what: If everything else doesn’t work out, we can still look to the future.”
