Lorient reached agreement to sign Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana
Foot Mercato are reporting that FC Lorient reached an agreement with Chelsea to loan striker David Datro Fofana (20), however, the move was never completed.
Fofana was highly coveted towards the end of the January transfer window. Foot Mercato earlier in the day had indicated that the Ivorian forward, who only arrived from Molde for around €12m this winter, already had an agreement in place with OGC Nice. Les Aiglons were looking to add the 20-year-old to their attacking options after completing a lucrative move for Ligue 1’s second-highest goalscorer this season in Terem Moffi, from Lorient.
Later on the evening of deadline day, Fabrizio Romano reported that Fofana was to remain at Chelsea, and the forward featured, and almost scored in Friday’s Premier League tie against West London rivals Fulham.
It has now been revealed that Ligue 1 rivals Lorient actually reached an agreement to loan Fofana, who was likely seen as a short-term replacement for Moffi. Despite the deal being agreed, the move didn’t conclude, and Fofana ultimately stayed, joining neither Lorient, nor Nice,
