Game of the week: Marseille v Lyon, Sunday 19:45 (UK)

Raphaël: Ligue 1’s Europe-weary sides are all in action on Sunday in this slow burner of a matchday, but not before a high-flying Lens are expected to make light work of bottom-placed Angers. Lorient have a point to prove after dropping points in three consecutive games, and there’s no better occasion for a statement win than when the league leaders come to town for the lunchtime kick-off – expect Régis Le Bris’ men to threaten PSG’s weary defence on more than one occasion.

Monaco are back to winning ways but a high-scoring Toulouse team won’t make it easy for them, while Nice have the chance to gain more ground on the upper reaches of the table as they host relegation contenders Brest. Reims are unbeaten since September and look reinvigorated since their change in manager, and Nantes will still be recovering from their triumphant labours in Athens. A well-rested Lille side should get the better of a Martin Terrier-less Rennes, before Laurent Blanc’s Lyon have the chance to deal yet another blow to a Marseille team still dazed from Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s knockout blow in midweek

Luke: The Marseille implosion is in full swing. Fierce rivals Lyon have the chance to pile on the misery in Sunday night’s Choc des Olympiques. Only a few weeks ago, Igor Tudor’s side were being talked about as a challenger to PSG’s supremacy, but a win for Laurent Blanc’s Lyon would move his side to within just one point of Marseille after a disastrous start to the season, which saw Peter Bosz fired. The only positive to come from Tuesday’s loss to Tottenham, which saw them finish bottom of their Champions League group, is that Marseille can now fully focus on climbing back up the Ligue 1 table after failing to win in either of their last four league matches.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain face a difficult trip to Lorient. Whilst Les Merlus have dropped off slightly in recent weeks, Régis Le Bris’ side are still in the top four and come up against a PSG side that may be drained after their mid-week win against Juventus. Lille v Rennes is arguably the most exciting game of the weekend. There is a guarantee of goals at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, and Rennes will be looking to extend their highly impressive 15-game unbeaten run. Lens should have no difficulty retaining their second place in Ligue 1 when they face rock-bottom Angers, whilst Monaco and Nice would be expected to overcome Toulouse and Brest.
