Ligue 1 authorities to decide on Marseille point deduction in November

L’Équipe report that the LFP – Ligue 1’s governing body – will have its disciplinary commission meet on November 3 to decide on whether Marseille’s suspended point deduction will be triggered, following crowd trouble in yesterday’s match against PSG.

Although Marseille fans had been warned against misbehaving in the build-up to the game – by their city mayor, president Pablo Longoria and Dimitri Payet – Le Classique was still full of incidents. From object-throwing at PSG players, to extensive use of flares and fireworks, to banners aimed towards league authorities.

OM are now likely to be inflicted the suspended single-point deduction they had been given following fan clashes on the trip to Angers last month. The LFP had already taken the decision to close down the visitors’ stands on Marseille away games until the end of the calendar year.

According to regulation, the incidents must be of the same nature as the ones the point deduction sanctioned, which may allow Marseille to escape this punishment – although these were less violent, they were continuous throughout the game.
