Juncker denies May begged him for Brexit help
Commission president says ‘pleading’ is ‘not the style of British prime ministers.’
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said Monday that “nothing is true” in a story that alleged U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May “begged” him for help on Brexit during a dinner last week.
“Nothing is true in all of this. I had an excellent working dinner with Theresa May,” the Commission president told the BBC’s Adam Fleming. Asked if May had pleaded with him for help on Brexit, Juncker said “No, that’s not the style of British prime ministers.”

Juncker also rubbished reports over the weekend in the Frankfurter Allgemeine that he called May “tired” and “despondent.”
“She was in good shape, and she was not tired, she was fighting as is her duty so everything for me was OK,” Juncker told the BBC.
An argument on Twitter broke out earlier Monday between Juncker’s chief of staff Martin Selmayr and Nick Timothy, May’s former senior aide, who had accused Selmayr of being the source of the leak, which the German denied.
