Iraklis, Paok and Panathinaikos big winners

The 3rd day matches of Greek championship had finished and Panathinaikos with Paok are on the first position with 8 points. Olympiakos is still without victory.

Pantathinaikos in Thessaloniki won 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 19-25) over Aris. As usual Yordanov Bojan could not be stopped and finally scored 21 points. The team of Panathinaikos also had Petreas in a great day with 12 points and 5 blocks. Paok played against EAPatron in Patra and won 3-1 (25-23, 27-29, 21-25, 27-29) with the team of Patra’s having justified complaints from referee’s decisions. Pedro Dornellas from EAPatron with 21 points had great performance. On the other hand Marko Bojic with 20, Karagiannis with 18 and the diagonal Sander Steinberg with 17 points were the best players from Paok.

The great battle between Olympiakos and Iraklis found the team of Thessaloniki winning 3-1 (31-33, 23-25, 25-23, 14-25). Iraklis was more effective and having Owens, Quiroga, Gortsianouk and Billings in a great day managed to easily beat Olympiakos. Zenia Gortsianouk from Iraklis team was also the MVP of the 3rd day playing in a middleblocker position even he is an outside hitter and although he was still recovering from his recently injury in both legs!!! We have to remind that Alekos Leonis had resigned after the bad game against Kifisia and Freddy Brooks was the first coach in the team of Thessaloniki.

In other results Lamia easily won 3-0 over Kifisia (21-25, 16-25, 16-25) and Epikouros made his first won ever in Greek League winning 3-1 over Panellinios (25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 25-16). At last Apollon Kalamaria after a thrilling race managed to won 3-2 against Etnikos Alexandroupolis. The team of Alexandroupolis had complaints from referee’s decisions.

The bad news from Greek Championship is the tragic economical situation of the majority of the teams. Panathinaikos players stopped their practice for one day and nobody knows how they will react in their next games. Olympiakos is also facing three bad games in a row from the beginning of the championship for the first time in his great history. Iraklis team had the same problems and as we had predicted in our last article Iraklis had already lost his first coach.
