Guerillas Of Destiny vs. Briscoes Announced For ROH: War Of The Worlds On 5/12
The Guerillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) will be defending their Ring Of Honor (ROH) Tag-Team Championships against The Briscoes (Mark Briscoe & Jay Briscoe) in the main event of the upcoming ROH: War Of The Worlds show in Villa Park, Illinois on May 12th.
The announcement was made by ROH today in the form of a new Kevin Eck column on their official website.
From the latest installment of Eck’s Files at ROHWrestling.com:
A war of words between the Briscoes and The Guerrillas of Destiny has escalated into a showdown at War of the Worlds.
A match between arguably the two best teams in the industry has been signed for May 12 when the War of the Worlds tour — which features the top stars in ROH and New Japan Pro-Wrestling — makes a stop in Chicago for an international television taping.
The match is scheduled to be for the ROH World Tag Team Titles, which G.O.D. (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) — who also are the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions — won in a four-way match at G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden on April 6 that included Jay and Mark Briscoe, then-ROH World Tag Team Champions PCO and Brody King, and EVIL and SANADA.
However, if G.O.D. loses the ROH belts before then — specifically at the War of the Worlds show in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 8 (streaming live for HonorClub) — their match with the Briscoes will still take place in Chicago because of the bitter grudge between the two teams.
The rivalry between the Briscoes and G.O.D. was all about titles initially. At Honor Rising in Tokyo two months ago, the Briscoes — who were the ROH World Tag Team Champions at the time — challenged G.O.D. to a title vs. title match at G1 Supercard. The match was eventually changed to a four-way after the Briscoes lost the titles to PCO and King.
G.O.D. left Madison Square Garden with two sets of belts, but they made it clear in a profanity-laced tirade afterwards that they didn’t care about the ROH titles.
Naturally, the 10-time former ROH World Tag Team Champion Briscoes took offense. They responded on social media with their own profanity-laced tirade.
The time for talking is over now. Fans can expect to see an all-out war when the Briscoes and G.O.D clash at War of the Worlds in Chicago. …
