French government maintains 5,000 supporter limit to sports stadiums until November

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Tuesday afternoon that the French government would not be lifting the 5,000 supporter limit in stadiums owing to COVID-19 until earliest 30th October.
This news affects the financial realities of Ligue 1 clubs, who were certainly hoping to see this cap raised in the latest round of French governmental announcements.
There is a loophole however to this announcement, in that Castex has confirmed that local governments can make decisions to increase this capacity on their own accord in one off instances.
Olympique de Marseille have notably asked their local authorities to raise the 5,000 limit to 20,000 for the season opener against St Étienne.
