FOX Looking for Smackdown to Focus Less on Comedy & More on Wrestling

— As part of WWE’s new deal with FOX, the network is looking to package wrestling into their “sports block”, which would be a Thursday to Sunday run beginning in 2019. With football in the mix during NFL season, FOX is wanting Smackdown to focus less on comedy and more on wrestling or at least move the product in a “sports direction”, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
— While Vince McMahon has always been more into the comedy aspect of his shows, FOX wants many of their “sports people” on the other sports shows to heavily cross-advertise Smackdown and they feel this can only happen if they are given something athletically oriented to promote and hype.
