Formula E won’t replace cancelled Montreal race

Formula E will keep its 2017/18 calendar limited to 12 rounds after deciding against slotting in a replacement race following the cancellation of its Montreal ePrix.

The Canadian city back-tracked on its commitment to host a double-header round of the all-electric series on its streets for the second year running next summer.

Newly elected Montreal mayor Valerie Plante initially suggested a change of venue for the event, proposing that Formula E move away from the center of the city, but ultimately decided to pull out of its contract.

Formula E considered several alternatives, earmarking June30/July 1 as a potential race date, while adding an extra race to existing race weekends was also contemplated.

“We’ve looked at a number of alternatives but decided not to replace Montreal,” a Formula E spokesperson confirmed to Crash.net.

“Racing in city centres requires proper planning and whilst this process opened up some interesting alternatives, we’ll allow more time to look at these before including in our calendar.

“Our season finale event will be in New York and it will surely provide a spectacular backdrop to crown this year’s champion.”
