Florida Dad Killed Teaching Son To Drive: 5 Things To Know
WINTER HAVEN, FL — The crash that claimed the life of a 57-year-old Florida dad who was teaching his teenage son to drive, has touched the hearts of Floridians and particularly residents of Polk County, where the crash occurred along Cypress Gardens Boulevard.
“Praying for all,” Ann McConnell Vaughn posted on the Facebook page for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Sarah and Jarrad Pollitt noted that the teenager behind the wheel of the PT Cruiser that was struck by a 2003 Toyota Corolla was just learning to drive. “He was probably nervous already and then this happens, caused by someone else,” the Pollitts observed. “It’s heartbreaking for all.”
Dennis Wind, who retired from the Lombard, Illinois Police Department, was about 50 feet away from the helicopter that touched down to take the father’s injured 7-year-old daughter to the hospital.
“Sheriff Judd should be proud of the efficient, professional manner in which his deputies handled a seemingly, amazingly complex accident as well as the firefighters that made the scene safe, gave aid to the injured and helped to console the public,” Wind penned on the Facebook page.
