WrestleMania kicked off with an explosive match for the Cruiserweight Championship, and a huge title change that may drastically effect the landscape of the WWE 205 Live brand.
In what will certainly set the stage as the “match to beat”, Tony Nese and his many, many abs defeated the long-reigning Buddy Murphy to become the brand new Cruiserweight Champion.
Murphy won the title back at WWE Super Show-Down in front of his home country and 70,000 screaming fans. He has been virtually unbeatable since October, downing virtually every member of the 205 Live roster that has stepped up to face him, and setting a new standard for excellence in terms of his title defenses.
This is a huge win for Nese, obviously, and one that has been a long time in the making. He has been a member of the division since before the founding of the 205 Live brand itself, competing in the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, losing to The Brian Kendrick in the second round.
