College students honored at national geophysics competition
The closing and prize-giving ceremony of the Seventh Oriental Cup National Exploration Geophysics Competition for College Students was held at China University of Petroleum on Tuesday.
The annual event, launched in 2013, aims to provide a platform for students to innovate, practice and cooperate in the field of exploration geophysics to better cultivate talents that meet the needs of enterprises that cover exploration for and evaluate mineral resources.Over the past seven years, the competition has been developed into a well-rounded event, playing a significant role in promoting university-industry research cooperation.
This year Cai Shengjuan and Hu Lianlian, received awards as the contest’s outstanding winners. They are students at the Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development. Nine groups of participants from China University of Petroleum, Northeast Petroleum University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Southwest Petroleum Institute and the China University of Geosciences, Wuhan claimed first prize.

“The competition is an important endeavor we made to forge creative and all-round talents, deepen educational reform and seek win-win results of university-enterprise collaboration,” said Shan Honghong, Party secretary at China University of Petroleum. “We will continue to hold high-level contests in different fields in the future.”
