Chris Jericho: Mike Tyson deal being worked out, open for boxing match

Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho talked with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi about the Mike Tyson angle from Wednesday’s Dynamite and what the future looks like for a program between the two.

“Obviously, the idea is to do something more. That’s the thought process, I think between both parties. What that is at this moment, we’re thinking and discussing. Look, Chris Jericho versus Mike Tyson in a wrestling match, in a street fight, in a boxing match, would be big. I’m not Mike Tyson. I’m not 1/1,000th of Mike Tyson, but I’ve been boxing for six years. I know how to box. I could win fights on my own against people of my skill level. So if that’s what he wants to do, that works too. Whatever he feels comfortable with, I can make it good. That’s what I do for a living. That’s what I’ve been doing for 30 years,” he said.

Jericho made it sound like there isn’t a deal set in place, later saying they just need to come to “some sort of a deal or…acceptance.” He is not concerned about Tyson’s lack of in-ring experience, saying the build and storyline would be the most entertaining part and whatever conclusion is “the easy part” and his job to figure out.

He said he had no idea that former UFC champions Henry Cejudo, Rashad Evans, and Vitor Belfort were going to come out with Tyson, going on to say he assumes there weren’t there just to hang around and “want to be part of the business.”

He also bristled at any criticism that this is just a WWE angle or ripoff, saying this is “a Chris Jericho angle. That’s ludicrous. Anybody criticizing that this was a WWE angle and we brought it over here — this is my life. It’s my story.”

He also discussed the Stadium Stampede and that they filmed from 9 PM to 6 AM from Friday to Saturday with three hours of time to edit.
