Braun Strowman’s Replacement Announced for WWE Mixed Match Challenge Playoffs

With Braun Strowman undergoing minor elbow surgery and his status for next month’s WWE TLC pay-per-view very much in question, the “Monster Among Men” has been officially pulled from the ongoing Mixed Match Challenge tournament.

Strowman’s partner Ember Moon will now team with Curt Hawkins instead, which is interesting because Moon was herself an unexpected replacement for Alexa Bliss, who is currently out with a concussion.

In a minor story, Hawkins was announced as Moon’s partner as a form of punishment from acting-Raw General Manager Baron Corbin, who has been wrapped up in a program with Strowman for several weeks now.

Moon and Hawkins (who has lost his last 236 matches) will face Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox tonight in the first round of the Mixed Match Challenge season two playoffs, streaming live on Facebook Watch. Bayley and Finn Balor will also team up for the Raw brand to face Bobby Lashley and Mickie James.

On the Smackdown side of things, Charlotte Flair and Jeff Hardy (a replacement for AJ Styles) will face the unlikely duo of R-Truth and Carmella, while last year’s winners The Miz and Asuka  are scheduled to battle husband-and-wife duo Jimmy Uso and Naomi.

Ultimately, the winning team from Monday Night Raw will battle the winners from Smackdown Live, with the victorious duo being crowned the 2018 Mae Young Classic Champions, earning the coveted #30 spot in their respective men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.
