Arsenal were willing to accept Chelsea’s offer for Olivier Giroud, but ran out of time

L’Équipe report this morning that Arsenal were ready to accept a bid that Chelsea had on the table for French international Olivier Giroud worth £15m plus bonuses, but that the Gunners missed a strangely tight deadline set by the Blues within which to accept the offer, and by the time that Arsenal got back to Chelsea, the bid had expired.

Chelsea have reached an agreement over personal terms with Olivier Giroud, but Arsenal were “too distracted by trying to reassure that Aubameyang camp that the deal would go through” to accept CFC’s bid in time, this was yesterday morning.

Chelsea have since picked negotiations up with Arsenal again, but the Gunners will be less than impressed by Antonio Conte’s side’s conduct. The French newspaper also appears to take indirect aim at Gianluca di Marzio and his reporting that a fee was agreed last night by saying “although the Conte camp, via their usual channels, filtered through that a definitive agreement had been reached, nothing has been concluded.”

AS Monaco have made an enquiry last night for the player, but Giroud is still hopeful that a move to Chelsea becomes concrete, convinced that he can displace Alvaro Morata in the Premier League champions’ starting XI.
