Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Dwarka, has found a specific species of bats-The Asiatic Yellow House Bat or Scotophilus Kuhlii- to be roosting in Delhi for the first time. The species has been recorded in Alwar and Bharatpur and it hasn’t been seen even in UP and Haryana.

It is described as a ‘generalist,’ which can roost in diverse habitats like tree hollows, building crevices and even moist toilet ducts. Dr Sumit Dookia, assistant professor at the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and his student Rajlakshmi Mishra, have made findings. Rajlakshmi has been conducting a long term study of bats in Delhi since 2014.
