David Demo Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week
Burnsville, Minn. — The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced that Minnesota State junior David Demo has been name the NSIC wrestler of the week. Demo went 2-0 on the week, including a 6-0 victory of St. Cloud State’s Eric Forde. Forde is the third-ranked wrestler at 125-lbs.
Demo was also victorious the following night as he defeated Northern State’s Anthony Bruno 5-0. The Bozeman, Mont., native finished the regular season with a 19-10 overall record and went 7-1 in NSIC action.
This marks the second time that a Maverick has been honored as the wrestler of the week, as sophomore Drew Lexvold won the award the week of Jan. 28 and is the second time in that Demo has garnered the award in his career.
No. 8 Minnesota State (10-3, 7-1) will travel to Waterloo, Iowa on Sunday, Feb. 24 to compete in NCAA Super Region #3. MSU will be joined by fellow NSIC foes St. Cloud State, Augustana, Southwest Minnesota State, Northern State, U-Mary, MSU Moorhead, Minot State and host Upper Iowa. Along with Indianapolis, UW-Parkside, Maryville and Newman with the top four wrestlers from each weight class advancing to the NCAA DII Wrestling Championships on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Ala.
