‘My life has become a mission’ – The 96-year-old Holocaust survivor who returned to Germany with a warning for the next generation 

Margot Friedlander still wears the necklace her mother left for her the day she went to surrender to the Gestapo. She still carries her mother’s notebook, full of names and addresses of people who could help her to hide. They were all Auguste Bendheim left her 21-year-old daughter the day she set off to her death in the gas chambers of Auschwitz. The necklace, the notebook, and a message: “Try to make your life”.
