Outside editors are big fans of POC. The company makes kickass biking gear and year after year impresses us with new, well thought out, stylish, and safety-first designs. Last year we even traveled to its Stockholm headquarters to see how its designers do it. But premium gear comes at a premium price, so we get excited whenever we spot a great deal like the ones on these two mountain-bike helmets.
One of our favorite helmets of 2017, the POC Octal X, adopts the overall design and styling of the venerated Octal road helmet. It’s awesome for cross-country riders because it weighs less than half a pound, vents like a sieve, and fits like a headband, thanks to a simple strap-dial system. At $260, it’s also outrageously expensive. Well, normally. Right now, the Adamant Orange color is just $117, a wild 55 percent off. The other colors, red and yellow, are both 25 percent off.
Trail and enduro riders are also in luck, as the Tectal Race is currently 20 percent off. It features a clean style and unibody construction, which extends coverage over the back of the head and temples. POC also carves 15 vents and a lengthy system of air channels throughout the Tectal Race so you won’t overheat under your lid when you start working hard on a climb.
