Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles Has a Giant Crush on Zac Efron—and the Feeling Is Mutual

Sorry, fellas: Olympic gymnast Simone Biles may be America’s sweetheart, but the pint-sized phenom’s heart already belongs to someone.

Before she hit the road for the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 19-year-old invited NBC into the home she shares with her family in Texas for a glimpse at the human side of her superhuman life. After joining her family for a giggle-filled meal reporter Stephanie Gosk was whisked away for a tour of Biles’s bedroom. Medals and trophies aside, it all appears pretty standard until a “somewhat alarming” life-size cardboard cutout of Zac Efron catches the journalist’s eye. When pressed about the actor’s likeness in her room, the 4-foot-8 gymnast cracks a smile, giggles, and admits that “sometimes I used to kiss him on the cheek.”

“Really?” Gosk says. “You realize that’s a little strange, right?” to which Biles responds with another giggle.

And the whole exchange manages to make her even more lovable. After all, what teenage girl doesn’t have a celebrity crush?

But for Efron, 28, the feeling proved to be mutual. On Monday night the Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates star tweeted at Biles, congratulating her for qualifying for Tuesday night’s team finals.

Biles (likely screaming uncontrollably) tweeted back at him encouraging him to tune in.

And then, because the world is a beautiful place, Efron tweeted the ultimate show of support for Biles and her teammates, complete with a winky face emoji and a photo of himself making a heart with his hands.

Swoon.
