Mourinho sets new mark for home futility with Man Utd draw against Valencia

The Portuguese manager recorded another unwanted record in a season that is quickly unraveling for his side

For the first time in his managerial career, Jose Mourinho has gone four consecutive home games in all competitions without a win.

The Manchester United boss saw his side draw Valencia 0-0 on Tuesday in the Champions League, sealing a fourth successive home fixture without victory.

United have now gone four home games without a win for the first time since December 2015, when Louis van Gaal was in charge. 

It was also a fourth straight game in all competitions without a win for United, who are off to their worst start in league play since 1989-90.

Mourinho and his team have endured a trying campaign in 2018-19 thus far, with the manager engaged in a series of high-profile spats with his players and the club’s hierarchy.

The manager’s behaviour has led club legend Paul Scholes to say that the Portuguese is “embarrassing the club.”

The Red Devils have not secured a win at home since a 3-1 victory over Leicester City on the Premier League’s opening day.

Since then at Old Trafford, United have fallen 3-0 to Tottenham, drawn Wolves 1-1 and were defeated on penalties by Championship side Derby County in the Carabao Cup. 

Mourinho will look to avoid a fifth successive home match without victory when United host Newcastle in Premier League action on Saturday.
